West Coast Retreat and Brunch
For the first time ever, A4 held a west coast event to connect Asian and Asian American Alumni in the San Francisco bay area. The event was planned in part of a larger A4 initiative to encourage regional Asian/Asian American mini-reunion events.
On Saturday, August 25, 2011, over 30 alumni from classes ranging from the 70s through 10s, got together for a brunch in a beach house outside of West Portal, California.
“The turnout was fantastic, and sets a precedent for holding local events on the west coast,” said A4 Board Member Ant Cheng ‘95. At the event, members sipped mimosas and discussed A4’s commitment to reconnect Asian and Asian American alumni with each other and with Brown. Topics discussed include ways to update communications (websites, Twitter, blogs), new ideas for the A4 newsletter, as well as A4 programs and events for 2011 and 2012 (e.g. Alumni Weekend, Lunar New Year, and Divali, Commencement).
A4 hopes that the success of the West Coast event will encourage other regions to hold similar local events. “It really is a nice intimate way to reconnect,” says Eric de Los Santos, president of A4.
A4 connects Asian and Asian American alumni throughout the world.
